Outstanding Expertise & Experience

I am a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) psychologist with more than 30 years of experience in psychotherapy, teaching, presenting, and writing. I also work as an Adjunct Professor at the Georgetown University Psychology Department and sit on the Board of Directors of The Women’s Center, a D.C.-area nonprofit providing affordable mental health services.

After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M University, I earned my Master’s and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Temple University in Philadelphia. Before solo private practice, I founded and led a successful CBT-focused group practice and worked at George Mason University, Bellevue Hospital/NYU Medical School, Rutgers University Medical School, American School of Professional Psychology, and Hood College. I instructed and supervised new therapists, taught undergraduate and graduate classes, and conducted research. During my academic career, I published many scientific articles and presented at more than 35 national and international conferences.

As a frequent contributor to The Washington Post, I address today’s most pressing issues relating to mental health and wellness. My articles also have appeared in The Conversation, CNN, Psychology Today Magazine, Chicago Tribune, Fast Company, Business Insider, Psychotherapy Networker, Psyche, The Sun Magazine and other outlets. I write a Psychology Today blog titled “From Science to Practice” and am currently working on a book about self-deceptions.

As a sought-after expert on anxiety, resilience, technology and mental health, and achieving goals, I’ve been quoted in the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, Vox, Newsweek, and Self, among many others, and interviewed by NPR, Voice of America, France 24, and dozens of podcasts. I have also presented to many associations, nonprofits, universities, and corporate audiences. My continuing education workshops for psychologists, counselors, and clinical social workers have focused on exposure therapy, CBT for insomnia, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and anger management.

I see clients 18 and older who struggle with anxiety, worry, rumination, perfectionism, insomnia, anger, and OCD. My additional specialties include dealing with high-level job stress, midlife and existential issues, regret, and interpersonal problems. Owing to my multicultural background, I am fluent in English and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, and conversational in French.
